Program Info: The music of Roque Baños has defined a large part of the sound imaginary of contemporary Spanish cinema before also conquering the international arena.
Its ability to move between melodic intimacy, psychological tension and great symphonic spectacle turns each score into a narrative territory of its own. In this concert, the Orquesta de Extremadura tackles a selection of works that requires a continuous stylistic transformation from the orchestra, moving from the emotional delicacy of Secondary Roads or Second Skin to the rhythmic power and orchestral density of The Passenger.
The programme covers some of the most emblematic titles of a filmography that is as versatile as it is recognisable: the disturbing irony of The Community , the tragic lyricism of The 13 Roses or the expansive classicism of Cantinflas . There is also room for the oppressive atmosphere of The Oxford Murders and The Widows of Thursdays, as well as for the emotional epic of In the Heart of the Sea or for the game and irreverent humour of titles such as Dying of Laughter , A Todo Tren or Father There Is Only One , and the current Torrent, president demonstrating how Baños handles comedy with rhythmic precision.
Performing this repertoire requires the orchestra to constantly change register, style and emotional temperature. Because in the musical universe of Roque Baños, each work finds its own pulse, but they all share something essential: the ability to turn images into emotional memory for the viewer.
