Program Info:
Silesian Chamber Orchestra
Piotr Pławner – violin, conductor

On August 23, we invite you to a unique evening with music, in which classics meet film, jazz and American musicals. The Silesian Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Piotr Pławner, who will also perform as a soloist this evening, will take listeners on a journey full of emotions, nostalgia and expressive melodies.

The program will include works by George Gershwin – a composer who was one of the first to combine the world of classical music with jazz. His Preludes delight with their rhythmic energy and characteristic sound inspired by the music of American cities, while the less frequently performed Lullaby shows a more lyrical and subtle face of the composer.

There will also be film music, which has permanently entered the canon of contemporary culture. The moving suite from John Williams' Schindler's List is one of the most poignant themes in the history of cinema – full of melancholy, simplicity and deep emotions, in which the violin leads a narrative about memory and humanity.

The energy and rhythm of the big city will be brought by the music of Leonard Bernstein from West Side Story – a story about love and conflict, inspired by the story of Romeo and Juliet. These are compositions pulsating with jazz, Latin rhythms and stage expression, which have been delighting audiences all over the world for years.

The evening will be complemented by a suite from Once Upon a Time in the West by Ennio Morricone – music full of space, nostalgia and characteristic themes that have been permanently written in the history of cinema. It is a sound image of the Wild West, in which each motif builds an atmosphere of tension and a story without words.

It is a concert that combines different worlds and styles, creating a coherent story about emotions, memory and the power of music. A perfect proposition for an evening full of impressions and beautiful sounds.
