Im Schmerz geboren Musik und Film (Born in Pain Music and Film)
hr-Sinfonieorchester (Hesschischen Rundfunk) conducted by Frank Strobel - hr-Sendesaal

Program Info:
The "Golden Camera" and the "Grimme Prize" were only the most prestigious of many awards for the hr-produced "Tatort" episode "Im Schmerz geboren" (2014) with Ulrich Tukur as Inspector Murot. Now the film can be experienced on the big screen with its completely classic soundtrack – this time played live by the hr Symphony Orchestra.

The episode, which was celebrated by critics as a cinematic masterpiece, has little in common with a classic television crime thriller, but is full of allusions, quotes and cross-references with references to theatre and film history: from Sophocles and Shakespeare to Dürrenmatt, Truffaut and the Italo Westerns to Tarantino. This cinematic bow to cultural heritage is convincingly rounded off by a trick that is actually obvious and yet particularly witty: the soundtrack of "Born in Pain" consists exclusively of classical music – from a captivating opera aria by Handel and a piano nocturne by Chopin to Verdi's famous "Prisoners' Chorus" from "Nabucco" and Georges Delerei's film music for "Jules et Jim". And all the recordings for this »Tatort« were made by the hr Symphony Orchestra – partly from the archives of the Hessischer Rundfunk, partly as part of a recording session under the direction of film music expert Frank Strobel in March 2014 in the hr broadcasting hall. In the same line-up and at the same location, the approximately 20 music excerpts will be heard live to the film at this "Music and Film" concert.
