Symphonic Soundtracks
Noord Nederlands Orkest conducted by Dirk Brossé - De Oosterpoort

Program Info:
From Captain Marvel to James Bond: iconic film music that can make or break a film sounds even more impressive live.

Music can make or break a movie. Movie music can be extremely good. And you can really hear that at a live performance. Some soundtracks are so orchestral that they seem to have been made for the concert hall.

That certainly applies to the epic, heroic music that Pinar  Toprak wrote for the Captain Marvel2019 Captain Marvel film adaptation. This sounds like a medley of highlights. Two other composers, Rachel Portman and Debbie Wiseman , created a wonderfully romantic sound world for Chocolat and Oscar Wilde respectively, two atmospheric films that owed their success strongly to the music. Alan Silvestri's closing music for Forrest  Gump is a classic tearjerker, in Elmer Bernstein's Magnificent  Seven theme the sound of old Hollywood revives. And of course there are well-known ' signature  themes ', such as those of Superman , Mission Impossible and James Bond Needless to say, such music is a joy for the orchestra members to play - so even without a film, there is still plenty to see.

On the repertoire:
James Horner - Braveheart
Howard Shore - The Lord of the Rings
Elmer Bernstein - The Magnificent Seven
Alan Silvestri - Forrest Gump
Howard Shore - Hugo
Klaus Badelt - Pirates of the Caribbean
Rachel Portman - Chocolat
John Barry / Monty Norman - James Bond
Lalo Schifrin - Mission Impossible
Pinar Toprak - Captain Marvel
Debbie Wiseman - Oscar Wilde
Hans Zimmer / Lisa Gerrard - Gladiator
John Williams - Superman
