Alfred Hitchcock - North by Northwest / Vertigo
Orchestre National de France conducted by Benjamin Lévy - Maison de la Radio et de la Musique
Program Info: "The more bad the villain, the more successful the film," said Alfred Hitchcock. His favourite musician Bernard Herrmann knew how to hold back the advice, capable of inspiring terror with next to nothing: sinister chords, rhythms repeated to the point of frenzy – Psycho –, orchestration weighed down by brass, in short a cold, metallic tension that is only released to paint a suffocating love – that of Kim Novak and James Stewart in Vertigo , for example. Hollywood's greatest film composer and some masters of the genre are reunited for this trip into Hitchcock's suspense films.
The program: Bernard Herrmann - Vertigo Bernard Herrmann - North by Northwest Bernard Herrmann - Psycho Miklós Rózsa - Dr. Edwardes House Franz Waxman - Rebecca Franz Waxman - Suspicions Dimitri Tiomkin - Strangers on a train Dimitri Tiomkin - Dial M for Murder
