On December 1, 1938, the film "Alexander Nevsky" by Sergei Eisenstein with music by Sergei Prokofiev was released. It was an immediate success. For Eisenstein, joint experimentation to synchronize musical and screen development was expressed in the author's concept of "vertical montage". Prokofiev, on the heels of their joint work, decided to create a cantata of the same name. Interaction with cinema is clearly reflected in the new score: here all musical images are as visible as possible. During the listening, the endless plains of Russia, the ruthless offensive of the Crusaders and their death in the waters of Lake Peipus, the solemn entry of Alexander Nevsky into Pskov open up before you.
