Halloween: Film Music from the Darkness
Stavanger Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rui Marques - Stavanger Konserthus

Program Info:
Stavanger Symphony Orchestra
Rui Marques, conductor
Rolf Kristian Larsen, presenter

As darkness descends and the October evenings grow longer, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra brings some of the most eerie tones in film history to life.

Together with actor Rolf Kristian Larsen, we will provide an evening where music creeps under the skin. From the icy tones of The Dark Knight to the iconic motif from Shark Tale, we encounter music that makes the spines of audiences around the world tingle. John Williams’ nerve-wracking shark attack and Bernard Herrmann’s legendary knife scene from Psycho are among the moments that have defined what fear sounds like.

In Danny Elfman’s music for Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, we encounter the vulnerable and melancholic. At the same time, Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells draw us into a disturbing atmosphere, familiar from The Exorcist.

Through music from films such as Halloween, The Ring, Hannibal, The Grudge, It and Pirates of the Caribbean, we meet composers Hans Zimmer and John Carpenter, who have shaped modern film music and our collective notion of fear.

In the music from Villmark 2 we feel the eerie that hides in the dark forest.

An evening of goosebumps and dark atmosphere – and a reminder of why we love to be scared!
