Program Info:
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Students' Union Orchestra (UPO), the orchestra is proud to present "Wish: 20 Years of Music". On April 8, 2026, nearly 100 HKUST student musicians will gather at Hong Kong City Hall to commemorate the extraordinary journey of the past two decades with a grand musical feast.

The repertoire of this concert is ingenious and cleverly echoes the growth trajectory of the orchestra. The first half of the session was themed "Looking Back", starting with Tchaikovsky's passionate and magnificent "1812 Overture", which paid tribute to the orchestra's glorious history; Following Anderson's "Trumpeter's Lullaby", it leads the audience back to the quiet essence of music; Later, the student soloists performed the third movement of Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 2", showing their exquisite skills. The first half ends with an excerpt from Weber's classic "The Phantom of the Opera", telling a moving story of 20 years of drama.

the second half is themed "Exploration", with John Williams' "March of Superman" playing first, conveying the orchestra's lofty ambitions to strive for the top; Saint-Saëns' "Introduction and Rondo Capriccio" is led by another student soloist, highlighting the orchestra's increasingly mature artistic attainments. The finale presents the fourth movement of Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony, which plays our infinite hopes for the future in a passionate and shocking melody.

This concert was fully planned and led by the students, and every note made our good wishes for harmony and harmony and passing on the torch.
