Steven Kamperman - Metropolis
The hundred-year-old, monumental science fiction epic Metropolis conjures up a dystopian world in 2026 (!). In it, an elite has entrenched itself in a hypermodern city that is kept running with the sweat and blood of an oppressed working class. The scale of the film production, with spectacular sets, mesmerizing special effects, and an army of extras, made it the most expensive of its time.
This vision of a society in which technology is a tool of power influenced modern classics such as Blade Runner and The Matrix. With this performance, vocal quintet Wishful Singing brings that theme to the present. Their voices mix with a futuristic live score by Steven Kamperman, who previously wrote glowing music for Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed by Lotte Reiniger.
