Program Info:
In the Enigma Variations , Edward Elgar painted his dearest friends. Each of the fourteen parts – one lovingly teasing, the other intimate and glowing – is a portrait in itself; together they form a wonderful ode to friendship. Film composers such as John Williams have been happy to be inspired by it when writing their musical character sketches, from E.T. and Indiana Jones to Luke and Darth Vader.
