Open Rehearsal: Hollywood’s Classical Composers with the Price Brothers
Tivoli Copenhagen Phil conducted by James Price - Tivoli Concert Hall
Program Info: Tivoli Copenhagen Phil Conductor: James Price Host: Adam Price
Join Tivoli Copenhagen Phil with the two warm-hearted, multi-talented brothers James and Adam Price on an enchanting journey back to a time when cinema became art – when grand symphonic music carried the dreams of the silver screen.
During Hollywood’s Golden Age, from the 1930s to the 1950s, composers such as Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Max Steiner, Franz Waxman and Bernard Herrmann created a whole new musical language for film storytelling. They brought the sound of late European Romanticism to California and shaped the rich, sweeping style that still defines how we experience film music today.
This evening, Tivoli Copenhagen Phil brings these iconic sounds to life in the Tivoli Concert Hall. Under the direction of James Price, the orchestra unfolds the full symphonic splendour, while Adam, with his trademark sparkle and wit, guides the audience through the often dramatic stories behind the composers, the films, and the era when Hollywood became the factory of dreams.
We will hear Korngold’s lush and adventurous music from The Adventures of Robin Hood – music that later inspired film composers such as John Williams – as well as the spine-chilling sound world behind Alfred Hitchcock’s thrillers, and, of course, the great themes from Ben-Hur and Gone with the Wind.
It will be a concert filled with nostalgia, drama and cinematic magic – from sweeping romantic love themes to nerve-racking musical stabs that still make us shiver in our cinema seats. But don’t worry: when these film music treats are served up by the Price brothers, we can promise that everyone will make it home safely – with a playful smile and a head full of unforgettable melodies.
