Hildur Guðnadóttir (Reykjavik, 1982) is busy writing history as one of the leading (film) composers of her generation. Her music is characterized by an enchanting mix of ambient drone (continuous layers of sound or sound fields that lie under a piece of music) and contemporary classical elements. In 2026, Hildur Guðnadóttir will be an associate artist of the Holland Festival. Iceland Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1950 and praised for performances at the BBC Proms, in Carnegie Hall and in the Musikverein in Vienna, plays the music of their compatriot for the first time in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. programme Nærmynd's includes music from Guðnadóttir's award-winning film scores: the chilling intensity of Joker , the subtle undertones of TÁR and the string ensemble that suggests love, distrust and chaos in A Haunting in Venice . It will also feature two new compositions by Guðnadóttir, written especially for the occasion, as well as pieces by composers who inspire her – Arvo Pärt, Ryuichi Sakamoto (Holland Festival associate artist in 2021), Mica Levi, Kaija Saariaho and Alvin Lucier. Nærmynd will be conducted by Daníel Bjarnason, one of Iceland's most prominent conductors and composers, who previously performed at the Holland Festival during Holland Festival Proms with We Came in Peace for All Mankind (2018).
