Amélie – in Concert
City Light Symphony Orchestra - KKL Luzern
Program Info: Yann Tiersen - Amélie
Follow Amélie into her fabulous world and experience the cinema hit from France in new splendour at the KKL Luzern!
With "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" ("The Fabulous World of Amelie") in 2001, director Jean-Pierre Jeunet succeeded in creating French cinema at its finest! In the title role, Audrey Tautou thrilled an audience of millions worldwide and the film music by Yann Tiersen is unmistakable. Succumb to the charm and wit of Amélie again and enjoy this film pearl with Tiersen's music, which is as funny as it is touching, played live in the concert hall of the KKL Lucerne.
The film tells the story of Amélie Poulain, a lonely young waitress at the Café des Deux Moulins. When she discovers a box of childhood treasures behind a skirting board in her apartment one evening, she decides without further ado to find its owner. Moved by the emotions of this man who, forty years later, rediscovers his memories, she sets herself a mission: to dedicate her life to the happiness of other people.
"Amélie" received five Oscar nominations and was awarded four César Awards, including "Best Film" and "Best Film Music". With its poetic and at the same time bizarre imagery as well as its delicate narrative style, "Amélie" redefined French cinema in the 21st century.
Now, 25 years after its theatrical premiere, the film shines again on Grossleiwand and Amélie, the waitress from the Café des Deux Moulins, takes you through the cobbled streets of Montmartre and right into the middle of her fabulous world, while the 40-piece City Light Symphony Orchestra plays Yann Tiersen's legendary, touching film music live and with pinpoint accuracy.
