Film music fan or classical music lover? The last Friday concert of the season offers both: We're daring daredevils, sailing with our audience and Erich Wolfgang Korngold over shimmering waves, setting off with Gustav Mahler into the dawn of young, new worlds. No screen pirates, it is said, were as elegant as those whom Erich Wolfgang Korngold honoured with his dazzling music! The overture to The Sea Hawk is actually part of a film score, and Korngold's violin concerto also draws its most beautiful themes from various scores composed for the silver screen. Our soloist in this virtuoso work is the exceptional German violinist Clara-Jumi Kang, who has calmly and consistently conquered the world's stages in recent years, performing with major orchestras and conductors. A generation older than Korngold, but born only 100 km away from him, is Gustav Mahler, who, with his symphonies, paints grand musical collages of the turmoil and bright colours of our world. In doing so, he flung the door wide open to modernity around 1900.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - The Sea Hawk – Overture Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Concerto for Violin and Orchestra D major op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 1 D-Dur Titan
