Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed
Staatskapelle Weimar conducted by Frank Strobel - Deutsches National Theater Weimar

Program Info:
Wolfgang Zeller - The Adventures of Prince Achmed
Director: Lotte Reiniger
Germany 1926
With the original music by Wolfgang Zeller (1926)
in the orchestral version by Jens Schubbe (2017)

Almost exactly 100 years ago, "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" was the first feature-length animated film in film history: a silhouette film made up of 100,000 individual images, in which high cinematography and the finest craftsmanship conjure up a fairy tale that enchants with filigree figures and imaginative two-dimensional decors.

The son of the Caliph of Baghdad, Prince Achmed, gets into all sorts of adventures. First, a flying horse whisks him away to an island called Wak-Wak, where Achmed falls in love with the beautiful Pari Banu. Great emotions follow, but also misunderstandings and battles against magicians and evil spirits, until everything turns out well in the end. Achmed has magical support from Aladdin and his magic lamp. A timeless story – timelessly beautifully realized!
