Silent Film with Live Music: The Adventures of Prince Achmed
Notabu.ensemble neue musik conducted by Mark-Andreas Schlingensiepen - Tonhalle Düsseldorf
Program Info: Wolfgang Zeller - Music for "The Adventures of Prince Achmed" (arr. for chamber orchestra by Jens Schubbe
The 100th anniversary of the Tonhalle is the perfect occasion to celebrate another birthday under the dome of the Mendelssohn Hall: Exactly four days before the opening of the planetarium, the structural predecessor of the Tonhalle, the first full-length animated film in film history was premiered in Berlin! It is a technical and poetic marvel: Lotte Reiniger has created countless silhouettes for the characters and sceneries of the story about Prince Ahmed and moved them in front of the camera with her team. Including demons, sea storm, magic horse and of course Aladdin's magic lamp. 250,000 images were taken, 100,000 used for the film. The film composer Wolfgang Zeller has written an enchanting music for it, which is in the best possible hands with Mark-Andreas Schlingensiepen, whose passion has always been silent film music.
