Paavo Järvi & María Dueñas
Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich conducted by Paavo Järvi - Tonhalle Zürich, Grosse Tonhalle
Program Info: Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich Paavo Järvi, conductor María Dueñas, violin
Born in 2002, the Spanish violinist Maria Dueñas is the youngest soloist this season. She is a musician "who has something to say and the ability to express it brilliantly," praised the New York Times. What is certain is that she has much more to offer than quick fingers: she also composes her own works and cadenzas and is consistently committed to contemporary and rare repertoire. Now she plays the Violin Concerto by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. It is "more Caruso than Paganini", said the composer about this work, in which he used various melodies from his film music. In addition, Paavo Järvi conducts the overture to Schumann's only opera "Genoveva" and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, which leads in an almost pictorial way from the "complete surrender to fate" via "murmurs, doubts, lamentations, reproaches" to the radiant finale.
Robert Schumann - Overture to "Genoveva" in C minor op. 81 Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Violin Concerto in D major op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) Intermission Pyotr Ilyitch Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 5 in E minor op. 64
