Hidden Heroines underline this concert which include Roxelana, the influential wife of Suliman the Magnificent of the Ottoman Empire, her character captured in the second movement of Haaydn’s Symphony No. 63. Paul Carr – whose Air for strings was such a hit with the WSO audience this spring – composed his Saxophone concerto in memory of his mother, the noted Australian soprano Una Hale. His music is frequently played on Classic FM as is the film music of Ennio Morricone.
