Emigres
Sinfonia Varsovia (Warsaw Philharmonic) conducted by Daniel Mieczkowski - Audytorium Muzeum Historii Polski
Program Info: Warsaw Symphony Daniel Mieczkowski conductor Jakub Haufa violin Karol Furtak leading
The story of Beethoven's fascination with Napoleon the democrat and his disappointment with Napoleon the emperor after his coronation in 1804 is widely known. One hundred and two hundred years after Beethoven, the cult of individuals has had and continues to have a negative impact on world history. Composers who managed to escape the disastrous influence of 20th-century totalitarianism in emigration included: Austrian of Jewish origin Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Russian Sergei Rachmaninoff. Korngold's famous Violin Concerto was written in the United States when Nazi Germany was annexing the composer's homeland. Rachmaninov fled revolutionary Russia with his family in 1917, and his last orchestral work, Symphonic Dances, Op. 45 from 1940 are an outstanding sum of his creative and personal experiences. The evening will begin with the Polish premiere of the piece Incontri by Piotr Moss on the occasion of the composer's 75th birthday. Inspired by a poem by Jan Lechoń entitled The work was the first work that began the Polish composer's emigration "Paris period" in 1983 and had its world premiere at the Théatre du Châtelet. The concert will be the culmination of the year-long residency of the young conductor Daniel Mieczkowski at Sinfonia Varsovia.
