Guest performance in the Kaisersaal of the Residenz in Würzburg
Bamberger Symphoniker conducted by Jörg Widmann - Kaisersaal der Residenz
Program Info: In 1784, the publicist Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart raved about the clarinet: »The character of the clarinet is: feeling melted in love – so completely the sound of the sensitive heart.« Carl Maria von Weber was also enraptured by the orchestral instrument, which was still young at the time – especially because of the artist friendship with Heinrich Joseph Baermann, the famous clarinettist of the Munich court orchestra, who premiered the beautiful Concertino in 1811: an effective piece with a magnificent introduction, wonderful variations and a lively finale. We look forward to the virtuoso interpretation by Jörg Widmann, who will also conduct us through two other scores. Korngold, who was considered a musical genius and was later in demand as a film composer in Hollywood, occasionally returned to his homeland after the Second World War. The Vienna Philharmonic played his symphonic serenade for the first time in 1950 - which, together with sparkling melodies and somnambulistic nuances, exudes a large portion of nostalgia in memory of the long-gone Romantic era. Mozart's popular G minor symphony was written in 1788 at a time when he was living in Vienna more or less as a freelance artist. It impresses with grandiose melodic inventions and an individual instrumentation without drums and trumpets. Musically, “mysterious shudders” are expressed in emotions such as restlessness, excitement, lamentation and despair – a profound masterpiece that the “Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung” has already praised with the words: “It will never fail to have an effect, always irresistible to the soul of the listener take and carry away.«
