Red Violin
Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Sudeckiej conducted by Mariusz Smolij - Filharmonii Sudeckiej im. Józefa Wiłkomirskiego
Program Info: Filharmonia Sudecka Mariusz Smolij - conductor Elizabeth Pitcairn - violin
Anyone who has watched this Canadian-Italian-British drama has certainly been impressed by the extraordinary history of the violin made by an Italian violin maker in Cremona in 1681. The instrument passes from hand to hand and brings misfortunes to its owners. From Cremona it goes to Vienna, Oxford, Shanghai, and finally to Montreal for an auction. In addition to the excellent plot, the film uses music for violin and orchestra composed by John Corigliano, for which the composer won an Oscar. This music will be present at our concert.
