Swing, musical and a pinch of nostalgia
If anyone knows about the great film musicians and composers in exile in Hollywood, it is violinist Daniel Hope. He dealt intensively with their biographies and buried himself passionately in archives. "There were the big stars who quickly became famous," he explains: Max Steiner, Erich Wolfgang Korngold or Miklós Rózsa. Kurt Weill, on the other hand, becomes a musical legend on Broadway. However, other careers are not so happy, and not everyone has a happy ending. "There is a lot of melancholy in the music of these emigrants and a lot of nostalgia." Hope, who has been closely associated with the Essen Philharmonic for many years, and Pumeza Matshikiza and Tom Gaebel combine their music for film and concert hall in this New Year's Eve concert to create real fireworks. The melodies and emotions in Cinemascope are in the best hands with film music expert Frank Strobel. He is the new chief conductor of the WDR Funkhausorchester.
