Don Q Son of Zorro by Donald Crisp avec Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Astor, Jack McDonald 1925 / United States / 1h51 / DCP / vostf Copie : FPA Classic
Don Cesar de Vega, sent to Spain by his father Zorro, falls in love with the beautiful Dolores and gains the favor of the court and the visiting Archduke of Austria. But the latter is found murdered, and Don Cesar is accused of the crime...
As for Don Q, Son of Zorro, it is a remarkable film, even superior, it seems to us, to the famous Sign of Zorro. It takes place in Spain, in a Spain that is always a little fanciful as Americans see it. The son of Zorro, who has come there to study, is drawn into a series of adventures where the flexibility, enthusiasm, and constant good humor of Douglas Fairbanks are given free rein. Accused of a crime he did not commit, Don Q, taking refuge in the ruins of the ancestral castle, ends up calling his father for help. And in these ruins, constructed (if one can say so) in an impressive manner, we witness a fight, supported by Zorro and his son against an entire battalion, which has as much panache as the best pages of Dumas and unleashes the enthusiasm of the spectators. The roles of Zorro and his son are played in a superior manner by Douglas Fairbanks. The other roles are very well played, notably those of Don Fabricio, Don Sebastian and Don Q's servant, who, in the sympathetic guise of Ch. Stevens, shows unfailing devotion. The photography is admirable and the sets and staging are absolutely beautiful. Cinemagazine, 1925 – No. 46, November 13, 1925
