This Swedish comedy is, especially visually, extraordinary. The sense of grays, whites, and blacks is that of a great cinematic painter. The tones and solids move luminously and create a delicious rhythm. The French spirit generally does not accommodate this kind of thoughtful irony found in farces from the North, but the Rabelaisian breadth of this story, funny to follow and beautiful to see, will strongly assert itself.
