It was in New Orleans, in 1874, that the amusing artist Ben Turpin was born. Very young, he began his career in the Chicago theater, then, for several years, he traveled, in the middle of a troupe of acrobats, the major cities of the United States. His comic qualities, the humor of his facial expressions, which served a cross-eyed look, brought him to the attention of film directors. For a year he was the partner of Charlot in a good number of films and played alongside him the role of "the slapped man", the Turkish head, the one on whom the fury of others is directed. Then, he shot for the Paramount Company and was finally hired by Mack Sennett, with whom he still works. Cinemagazine, 1922 – No. 22, June 2, 1922
