Festival du Cinéma muet d'Anères: The Incomplete Athlete (The Strong Man)
Antonio Coppola, piano - Festival venue
Program Info: The Incomplete Athlete (The Strong Man) by Frank Capra with Harry Langdon, Priscilla Bonner, Arthur Thalasso 1926 / United States / 1h15 / DCP / vostf Copie : Splendor Films
A Belgian soldier fighting in the First World War receives a letter and a photograph from Mary Brown, a young American woman he has never met. After the war, he travels to America to find her...
Already in his previous creations, Harry Langdon had proven that we could count on him. The Incomplete Athlete, one of his most important films, justifies the hopes placed in him. The audience at the presentation was greatly entertained by the burlesque exploits of the hero, partner of an athlete and launched in search of his old war godmother, Mary Brown, whom he has never seen and whose address he does not know. There are many Mary Browns in America, and this causes unspeakable misunderstandings. Particularly amusing are the scenes during which Harry is brought in to replace his partner, the athlete, who has taken refuge in the Lord's vineyards! Robert Mac Kim, William Mong and Gertrude Astor happily give the clown-comedian that is Harry Langdon their turn. Cinemagazine, 1927 – No. 19, May 13, 1927
