Michel Legrand and cinema - The greatest film scores
Le Band Original Orchestra, l’orchestre original des bandes originales - La Seine Musicale
Program Info: It is sometimes said that good film music should not stand out. The composers featured in the Greatest Film Music concerts did not follow this advice, and so much the better! On the program: a series of concerts dedicated to the cult music of the masterpieces of the 7 th art at the Auditorium of La Seine Musicale. While certainly composed for the screen, soundtracks are scores in their own right that can very well do without images; they give us the pleasure of remembering the images they accompanied, and even of guessing them. Presentation
It's sometimes said that good film music shouldn't stand out. However, the composer featured here chose not to follow that advice, which works to our advantage! Film soundtracks, although written for the screen, are works in their own right that don't require visuals. Their ability to evoke memories and images makes them particularly powerful.
Michel Legrand is an iconic name for the most beautiful melodies in French cinema since the 1960s. Whether sentimental, classical or jazz, his compositions continue to live on outside of films and have become timeless standards. To mention Michel Legrand is also to recall the New Wave of French cinema, having collaborated with directors such as Jacques Demy , Barbra Streisand and Norman Jewison . His music has earned him 3 Oscars ® and a Palme d'Or ® , thus participating in the greatest successes of the seventh art. More than a simple concert, it is a total immersion in the composer's universe where music, theater, and staging intertwine in a sound and visual fresco. "Good film music must serve the film as much as the music," said Michel Legrand . His ability to capture the spirit of the times is manifested in melodies that become the soundtrack of our lives.
