John Williams, from classics to cinema
Orchestre Colonne - La Seine Musicale
Program Info: Orchestre Colonne Julien Leroy, conductor Ludmila Berlinskaia · piano Arthur Ancelle · piano Julie Terranti · presentation
Can you imagine John Williams' music finding its way into the great works of the classical repertoire? The answer is yes, and that's precisely what we invite you to discover!
From Star Wars to ET to the haunting melodies of Harry Potter , John Williams has transformed film music into a true symphony, drawing inspiration from the great classical composers.
Listen to Star Wars and you'll hear the martial epic of Holst's Mars resonating , with its imposing brass and hammering percussion. In a more lyrical register, Across the Stars evokes the tragic elegance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake : two themes where each note seems to carry the melancholy of an impossible love. As for the two anguished notes of Jaws , they recall the dramatic tension of the fourth movement of Dvořák's New World Symphony , moving towards the inevitable.
Led by pianists Ludmila Berlinskaïa and Arthur Ancelle, the Invitation to Voyage, an emblematic event of the Colonne Orchestra, will take you for this concert into a poetic and dreamlike universe, far from space battles and epic adventures...
