The Nils Wanderer Experience
Orchestre symphonique de Québec conducted by Clemens Schuldt - Palais Montcalm
Program Info: From Romantic composers to contemporary musicians, Baroque music remains an inexhaustible source of inspiration. With the help of German countertenor Nils Wanderer, Clemens Schuldt has designed a program that is as unexpected as it is inspiring. Beyond the irresistible theme of its first movement, Brahms' Fourth and Final Symphony synthesises the composer's entire musical legacy. Its finale is a passacaglia inspired by a theme borrowed from Bach, the "father of musicians", whose elegiac Sinfonia opens the concert. The instrumental pieces of Gabrieli, Rameau and Vaughan Williams — who revisits the Greensleeves aria dear to the Renaissance and Baroque periods — dialogue with the most beautiful arias of Purcell and Handel, sublimated by the rare and suave timbre of Nils Wanderer. Bryce Dessner's Aheym, guitarist of the band The National, pays homage, in a hair-raising minimalist writing, to the Jewish immigrants from whom the musician descends. The score gives a particular resonance to Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah. Finally, the hit that Adèle intended for the credits of Skyfall, on the 23rde James Bond, retraces through his lyrics the entire journey of this extraordinary concert, highlighted by Nyco Desmeules.
