Elgard Cello Concerto
Malmö Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martyn Brabbins - Malmö Live Konserthus
Program Info: From full cello focus to a playful parade of the entire orchestra’s instruments – the ettigate.
Be captivated by Edward Elgar’s irresistibly passionate Cello Concerto, interpreted by young Senja Rummukainen who has already captivated both audiences and critics after her Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall. The rest of the evening sees the orchestra take centre stage in humorous variations on a musical theme by Purcell, with Benjamin Britten playing with the characters of all the instruments in The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra – music that is equally entertaining and inspiring for listeners of all ages. Witold Lutosławski also presents all the orchestra’s instrument groups in the powerful Concerto for Orchestra with Polish Folk Melodies in an imaginative setting.
Benjamin Britten - The Young Person's Guide to the orchestra, opus 34 (composed in 1946 to accompany an educational film produced by the British government and featured in the Oscar-nominated film Moonlight Kingdom) Edward Elgar - Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85 Witold Lutosławski - Concerto for Orchestra(1950–1954)
