Program Info: The animated films of the Japanese Studio Ghibli are extremely popular worldwide. This is partly due to the compelling music that Joe Hisaishi composed for films such as Spirited Away , Princess Moninoke and My Neighbour Totoro . That is why European Philharmonia is now putting the music in the spotlight. Timeless melodies that can stand on their own.
Composer and conductor In the list of famous film composers such as Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer and John Williams, Joe Hisaishi cannot be left out. He became famous through his collaboration with director Hayao Miyazaki, one of the founders of Studio Ghibli. As a conductor, he performs for orchestras worldwide with his own work and with classical symphonic repertoire. The Belgian conductor Walter Proost will do the honours tonight.
The Boy and the Heron Interest in Hayao Miyazaki's films has increased considerably thanks to the success of The Boy and the Heron (2023). Miyazaki, who is well into his eighties, was not expected to make a new film. Until The Boy and the Heron was released, with which he won his second Oscar. And again Hisaishi wrote breathtaking notes for it.
