Pianist Helena Basilova, violinist Jeffrey Bruinsma and cellist Geneviève Verhage pay tribute to the iconic album 1996 (including Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence ) by Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. In April 2024, pianist Helena Basilova released a beautiful album as a personal tribute to the late Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. Now there is a sequel: together with violinist Jeffrey Bruinsma and cellist Geneviève Verhage, Basilova plays their own arrangements of Sakamoto's legendary piano trio album 1996 , which includes classics such as Merry Xmas Mr Lawrence and Bibo No Aozora . The album 1996 was the result of a world tour that Sakamoto made that year with colleagues Jaques Morelenbaum and Everton Nelson. A tour in which the three musicians always played far apart, evenly distributed across the stage. In the dark with only three spotlights on the musicians.
