International Brucknerfest 25: The Melody of the Street – Homage to Federico Fellini

Program Info: Christian Muthspiel and his 17-member ensemble Orjazztra Vienna bring a tribute to the legendary Italian film director Federico Fellini. Inspired by Fellini's cinematic masterpieces such as La Strada , City of Women , Ship of Dreams , and Ginger and Fred , the musicians bring romantic, melancholic, dramatic, and comic scenes to life.
They combine an orchestral, at times almost symphonic, approach to contemporary jazz with a great deal of improvisational freedom. In this way, Muthspiel's 'audio film,' consisting of four sequences and 17 musical scenes, opens up opulent, fantastical, and theatrical soundscapes that at times recall the film scores of Fellini's artistic 'partner in crime,' Nino Rota, from the tensely rising 'opening credits' to the exuberant 'closing party.' The images in your head arise all by themselves – regardless of whether you're familiar with Fellini's films or not.
