VVO: The Music of Star Wars
Vantaa Entertainment Orchestra conducted by Nick Davies - Tampere Hall
Program Info: John Williams’ magnificent music will take the listeners on an unforgettable intergalactic journey
Star Wars is a phenomenon that has grown into an enormous cultural force, captivating generation after generation – but what would it be without John Williams’ music? The Vantaa Entertainment Orchestra’s highly popular The Music of Star Wars concert will now be performed for the first time at Tampere Hall. During the evening you will hear all the finest hits from the Star Wars movies along with some lesser-played, yet musically stunning gems.
The concert will be conducted by the orchestra’s chief conductor, Nick Davies, and film director Timo Vuorensola will host the event. The concert will not feature excerpts from the films but will focus entirely on the music.
John Williams is one of the most respected film composers of our time. He has worked with several legendary directors and composed music for numerous successful films, from Schindler’s List to Harry Potter, from Jaws to Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park to Saving Private Ryan.
Williams has also composed the music for all nine Star Wars films in the Skywalker saga. The first of these was released in 1977, and the last in 2019. Over 42 years, he created over twenty hours of skillful and emotionally moving music.
Those who have watched the films have an indelible emotional imprint from the themes of the music. The opening title fanfare resonates from decade to decade, and more than sixty musical motifs carry characters and the story throughout the entire saga. The themes of Luke, Leia, and the Force remind us of the events of the story, but also of what we felt when we first heard them. Even a small reference to Darth Vader’s dark and harsh Imperial March sends a chill down the spine.
Williams’ music touches emotions that are always genuine and true. Thanks to his music, we are ready to believe everything that happens in the films. And it doesn’t even matter if one has never seen the Star Wars films – Williams’ magnificent, skillful, and timeless music will still take the listeners on an unforgettable intergalactic journey.
