Donnie Darko (2001)
Blindman [sax] + Eric Sleichim - Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ
Program Info: Eric Sleichim - Donnie Darko (2001)
Cult classic with a new score for saxophones, percussion and electronics
BL!NDMAN gives the modern cult classic Donnie Darko a completely new score, while retaining the original dialogue and pop songs that give the film its typical eighties feel. In an eccentric mix of supernatural science fiction and psychological drama, sensitive, troubled teenager Donnie – Jake Gyllenhaal’s breakthrough role – experiences ghostly visions after escaping a freak accident.
A Californian suburb in the late eighties is the setting for a mystery that strings together adolescent uncertainty, budding love, wormholes and hallucinations. The live soundtrack with saxophones, percussion and electronics takes you to a world that goes beyond what you can see or hear. Composer Eric Sleichim: 'The typical eighties songs are of course preserved as such. It is an arsenal of instruments that will give the sound of the film a physical presence.'
