Shakespeare’s Characters in Music
Malta Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Michael Laus - Fort St Elmo

Program Info:
William Shakespeare’s influence on music is profound and multifaceted. The MPO, under the baton of Michael Laus, presents a programme of works inspired by the playwright’s rich characters. Exuding majestic energy, Walton’s Henry V, Suite dynamically captures the grandeur and spirit of the play, while Tchaikovsky’s symphonic poem Hamlet, Fantasy Overture conveys the psychological and emotional landscape of the tragedy through vivid orchestration and thematic development. Renowned for its evocative portrayal of Shakespeare’s drama, Suite No. 2 from Romeo and Juliet showcases Prokofiev’s mastery in translating the essence of a timeless love story into music.

Programme
William Walton - Henry V, Suite from the 1944 movie by Laurence Olivier (original title: The Chronicle history of King Henry the Fifth with his Battle fought at Agincourt in France)
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Hamlet, Fantasy Overture
