Known as a cultural treasure of Lithuania, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra is widely recognised as one of the best chamber orchestras in the world. The ensemble's remarkable history includes over a hundred performances with Mstislav Rostropovich, Yehudi Menuhin, Tatyana Nikolaeva and other prominent musicians. Over the years, the orchestra's soloists have included Jeanine Janssen, Vadim Repin, Daniel Hope, Oleg Kagan, Yuri Bashmet, Misha Maisky, Natalia Gutman, David Geringas, Daniel Müller-Schott, Evgeny Kissin, Bruno Canino, Sergey Nakaryakov, Alexey Ogrinchuk, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Moitsa Erdman, Avi Avital and others.
The LKO was founded in 1960 by a group of enthusiastic young musicians and the distinguished conductor Saulius Sondeckis, who remained at the helm of the ensemble until 2004. A new chapter in the ensemble's history began in 2008 with the arrival of Sergei Krylov as the new Artistic Director and Principal Conductor. His dedication to the highest professional standards and finesse of musicianship, as well as the constant expansion of the repertoire, opened up exciting new horizons in the development of the orchestra. The LKO has performed in major European halls to large audiences and with encouraging critical reviews in major European halls such as the Berlin Philharmonic, Musikverein – Vienna, Royal Festival Hall – London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Pleyel Hall and Champs-Elysees Theatre in Paris, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Mupa Hall – Budapest. The orchestra has participated in music festivals in Salzburg, Lucerne, Schleswig-Holstein, the Stradivari Festival in Cremona, the festivals in Sion, Gstaad, Rheingau, Musikfest – Berlin, etc.

The 25th edition of the "European Music Festival" is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Sofia Municipality.
