Korngold & Tchaikovsky
Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester conducted by Manfred Honeck - Berwaldhallen
Program Info: Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra Manfred Honeck, conductor Renaud Capuçon, violin
A milestone in opera history, an equilibrist Hollywood exposé and a fateful battle fill the hall when Manfred Honeck conducts the overture from Mozart's Don Giovanni, Korngold's Violin Concerto and Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony. He is accompanied by star soloist Renaud Capuçon and the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra. In the overture to Don Giovanni, laughter is mixed with horror as Mozart leads us into the world of the insidious charmer. In a medley of his romantic film music, Korngold gives the violinist the lead role, who is allowed to shine with his agility. In Symphony No. 5 we meet a Tchaikovsky in crisis who is battling with Lady Fortuna.
The music Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Overture to Don Giovanni K. 527 Erich Wolfgang Korngold: Violin Concerto in D major, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) Pyotr Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5 in E minor
