Anniversary film concert with the Metropolis Orchestra Berlin: After the great success at the beginning of the year, it returns to the Theater im Delphi. Rarely has a film had such an impact on film and media history as FW Murnau's brilliant silent film THE LAST MAN from 1924. This gripping tragicomedy about an aging hotel porter, stunningly played by the young Emil Jannings, revolutionized film language with its unexpectedly versatile ("unleashed") camera movements and the omission of text panels. None other than Alfred Hitchcock, who attended the filming, described THE LAST MAN as the perfect film. The visual spectacle, with its elaborate sets, sophisticated film tricks, and stylized images, remains just as captivating even 100 years later as it once did for Hollywood.
The visual composition is transformed into an exhilarating concert-film experience by Richard Siedhoff's congenial musical composition, performed live by the Metropolis Orchestra Berlin under Burkhard Götze. Siedhoff's new composition oscillates between romantic, modern, jazz, and tango influences, transforming the film into a gripping satire about the overthrown monarchy in the shadow of the Golden Twenties.
Directing legend Volker Schlöndorff has taken over the patronage of this project.
