Behind the Telescopes (8+)
Arthur Antoine and Lavinia Meijer - TivoliVredenburg, Hertz

Program Info:
Behind the telescopes is a musical journey of discovery to a better life. News reports about refugees and the discovery of life on the planet Mars gave Lavinia Meijer the idea for the performance, bringing the two subjects together. The main character is a young girl who grows up in a world full of negativity, in which refugees are seen as invaders. She looks at space through a telescope and wants to go to Mars to find a better life there. But during that search she actually becomes a refugee herself.

Behind the telescopes is an adventurous family film with live music, conceived and made by Lavinia Meijer, together with animator Aimée de Jongh and sound designer Arthur Antoine. Arthur Antoine and Lavinia Meijer create the film's music live. In addition to the composed pieces, improvisation takes place and samples and sound effects are used, guided by the image. The audience also becomes part of the performance.
