Chaplin, Keaton & Co. - Request concert the film music
Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau conducted by Wolfgang Kluge - Mausoleum am Tierpark Dessau
Program Info: Two silent comedies by Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton with live music as well as film music of your choice
Embedded in a program with highlights of film music from past decades, the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau is showing two almost half-hour silent film comedies in front of the mausoleum: The Adventurer by and with Charlie Chaplin and One Week by and with Buster Keaton. Both will be performed with music by Robert Israel, who also composed the music for Harold Lloyd's film Girl Shy , which was shown in front of the mausoleum in 2023.
The Adventurer is the last of 12 short films that Chaplin made for the Mutual film company in 1916/17. In it he plays an escaped prisoner who repeatedly evades his pursuers and finally escapes into the open sea. Shortly after he is back on the safe shore, he saves a young girl and her mother from drowning. The two ladies invite him to their home, where Charlie appears as an elegant gentleman in a tailcoat, has to fend off a jealous lover and is finally chased again by the police who have been called.
One Week , a funny early work by the then 25-year-old Buster Keaton, was one of the biggest audience successes of 1920 in the USA. The film came to Germany in 1925 under the title Buster Keaton's First Honeymoon (later also Honeymoon in a Prefabricated House). And that's what it's all about: As a wedding present, Buster and his young wife Sybil receive a prefabricated house that they can build themselves according to the instructions. They set to work with enthusiasm, but what emerges is a crooked structure that begins to spin like a carousel in storms and rain. To make matters worse, on the sixth day it turns out that their home was built on the wrong property. Buster and Sybil have to move their house and their house to the other side of a railway line...
