«City Lights» – von und mit Charlie Chaplin
City Light Symphony Orchestra - KKL

Program Info:
Charles Chaplin - City Lights

On the 50th anniversary of the death of Charlie Chaplin (died December 25, 1977).
Experience the silent film masterpiece from 1931 on the big screen with live original music .

The silent film “City Lights” from 1931 is a tragicomedy in which Charlie Chaplin as “Tramp”, his most famous character, goes on adventurous forays through urban scenes. The tramp falls in love with a blind flower girl, whom he helps to have an eye operation. After a number of trials and tribulations in which the tramp tries to be a boxer, befriends an alcoholic millionaire and mistakenly ends up in prison, the two finally find each other.

With the production of “City Lights,” Chaplin committed an anachronism that entailed considerable risk. Since the triumph of sound films, the masses of the public have found silent films to be old-fashioned. But the risk paid off: “City Lights” became Chaplin’s greatest triumph of his career to date and is still considered a masterpiece in film history today.

Sir Charles Chaplin is one of the most important comedians of the world 20th century. His most famous role is “The Tramp,” an impoverished tramp with the manners and dignity of a gentleman. This figure with a moustache, oversized pants and shoes, bamboo stick in hand and bowler hat on his head became a film icon. The American Film Institute chose Charlie Chaplin Ranked 10th among the greatest American film legends of all time.

While the film shines on the big screen, the 50-member City Light Symphony Orchestra plays Charlie Chaplin's film music precisely.

Immerse yourself in the busy 1930s with Charlie Chaplin and let yourself be enchanted by this eternal film classic!
