«The Gold Rush» – von und mit Charlie Chaplin
City Light Symphony Orchestra - KKL
Program Info: Charles Chaplin - The Gold Rush
Experience “The Gold Rush” from 1925 in the 1942 sound film version on the big screen with live original music .
Alaska, late 19th century: A trek of fortune hunters heads into the wilderness to look for gold. Including the “Tramp”. Their path leads them to the hidden gold mines of Klondike. However, the calm is quickly lost when another prospector, just as hungry as he is, starts mistaking him for a giant chicken. In this world where shoelaces become spaghetti and buns become ballet shoes, Chaplin the Alchemist turns gold into poetry.
In the silent film comedy "The Gold Rush" from 1925, Charlie Chaplin uses the gold hunters' knighthood of fortune, taken to extremes in the film, as a metaphor for a world that is only oriented towards material values, in which, despite all his clumsiness, he will be at the end finds personal happiness in the form of love. The film was re-released several times, with Chaplin releasing it in 1942 in a sound film version with specially composed film music.
Sir Charles Chaplin is one of the most important comedians of the world 20th century. His most famous role is “The Tramp,” an impoverished tramp with the manners and dignity of a gentleman. This figure with a moustache, oversized pants and shoes, bamboo stick in hand and bowler hat on his head became a film icon. The American Film Institute chose Charlie Chaplin Ranked 10th among the greatest American film legends of all time.
While the film shines on the big screen, the 50-member City Light Symphony Orchestra plays Charlie Chaplin's film music precisely.
