Tchaikovsky's Pathétique
Queensland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gábor Káli - Concert Hall, QPAC

Program Info:
Fancy a good practical joke? Richard Strauss wrote Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche (Merry Pranks) about a German folk hero who loved getting up to no good. It’s always fun to hear musical comedy from a serious composer, and we’ll be cracking a smile with you in the concert hall.
Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto is up next, and young Swedish violinist Daniel Lozakovich will soar through the solo. You’ll hear cinematic strokes in this adventurous work by an Oscar-winning composer.

The energy continues when Gábor Káli conducts Tchaikovsky’s monumental Symphony No.6 (Pathétique). Its nickname is a poor translation of patetitcheskaja – the Russian word for ‘passionate’. Tchaikovsky said he put everything he had into this symphony, which is saying a lot when we’re talking about a man who wrote music for live cannons.

Richatd Strauss - Til Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche, Op.28
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Violin Concerto, Op.35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Symphony No.6, Op.74, TH 30, B minor (Pathétique) - 3rd movement only
