Winner of five Oscars for best soundtrack, with the adaptation of the musical Fiddler on the Roof (1971), with Jaws (1975), Star Wars (1977), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and Schindler's List (1993) , John Williams is certainly one of the most famous composers of film music. Among his successes there is certainly the soundtrack to the film ET the Extra-Terrestrial , a film by Steven Spielberg, released in theatres in June 1982 on which the American film critic Roger Ebert expressed himself thus: «This is not simply a good movie. It's one of those films that sweeps away our fears and wins our hearts." The composition of the soundtrack was not, however, easy for Williams who, with this music, won the fourth of his five Oscars. Williams, in fact, in addition to having to write the music for some scenes that he did not have the opportunity to see or that he saw in a provisional form without special effects and sounds, had to make an objectively ugly being like ET sympathetic with his musical comments. The scene in which he found the most difficulty was certainly the final sequence, for which Spielberg left Williams free to write it as he saw fit, deciding to re-edit it all at the end so that he could match the music. The suite, The adventures on Earth collects some of the most significant pages of the soundtrack, from those of greatest impact to others of more intense lyricism.
Also by Steven Spielberg is Jurassic Park , released in cinemas in 1993, for which Williams wrote a soundtrack that was supposed to express sensations such as amazement and fascination at the presence of dinosaurs seen in person. Opened by a horn solo, the Theme is a page of intense lyricism.
Released in 2001, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the first instalment of the Harry Potter film series, whose soundtrack was composed by John Williams in his homes in Los Angeles and Tanglewood. Of this soundtrack it will be proposed to listen to 's theme , Hedwig the main theme of all the films in the series, whose characteristic is the use of the celesta that initially exposes it, and Harry's Wondrous World ( The marvellous Harry's World ), where the world of the famous wizard is described by means of a rich orchestral palette.

“During the summer of 1993, it was my great privilege to compose the music for Steven Spielberg's outstanding film, Schindler's List . The ennobling plot of the film, set in the midst of the immense tragedy of the Holocaust, provided the opportunity to create not only dramatic music, but also themes that reflected the most tender and nostalgic aspects of Jewish life during these turbulent years.
For this part of the score I gave the lead to a solo violin, accompanied by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and our greatest fortune was to have Itzhak Perlman as soloist for the recording."
From the soundtrack of the famous film, inspired by the novel by Thomas Keneally based on the true story of Oscar Schindler, a German entrepreneur who saved 1100 Jews during the Second World War, we propose listening to the very tender and sweet initial theme .
The concert ends with the suite from the Star Wars soundtrack in which , initially, George Lucas, the father of the saga, made up of six films, gathered together in a double trilogy and produced between 1977 and 2005, he intended to include operatic music consisting of famous songs on the model of 2001 A Space Odyssey . Only later, at the suggestion of his friend and colleague Steven Spielberg, did the American director decide to entrust the task of composing the music to Williams who made use of Leitmotifs to characterise characters and situations. Among the most famous songs we must remember the Main Theme which opens all the films of the saga and The imperial March , also called Darth Vader's Theme because it underlines his appearances.
