Trygve Brøske - Norway our Norway in tones and images
legendary silent film success in a new festive outfit

We repeat the success and show Lyder Selvig's iconic Norwegian film to newly written music by Trygve Brøske.

The huge success and silent film Norway our Norway in tones and images from 1929 is a national treasure, which is now followed by music written almost a hundred years later. In 2022, the festival performance was part of Kosmorama's festival programme.

This is a patriotic tribute to the nation. The film is an odyssey through Norway from south to north. It is also a beautifully filmed cavalcade of the businesses that the nation lives on, such as agriculture, forestry, fishing, whaling and industry. We also take part in showjumping in Holmenkollen, and we get situations with Knut Hamsun and Sonja Henie - scenes that have been unknown to the Norwegian public for 90 years.

Our Norway Norway played three performances every day for five weeks in the autumn of 1929, accompanied by an orchestra augmented with operatic songs. Later, the film was successful in Sweden and the United States. The specially written music by Trygve Brøske consists of "old" music, music from the time of the film, complemented with Brøske's own newly written music.

The film is divided into two acts of 56 and 45 minutes, with a break between the acts.

For the new premiere in 2022, the National Library restored and digitized the film, and even tracked down forgotten scenes. The restoration work and the new premiere of Norway our Norway in 2022 was an interdisciplinary collaboration between the National Library, Kosmorama, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera, Olavshallen, composer Trygve Brøske and producer Dag Hoel.
