3rd symphony concert «Happiness that remained to me»
Philharmonisches Orchester Bremerhaven - Stadttheater Bremerhaven, Großes Haus

Program Info:
Almost immediately after the Second World War, namely in 1946 and 1947, the works of the third symphony concert were premiered in the USA and convey the atmosphere of that time as if in a snapshot. First there are the upbeat dance episodes from Leonard Bernstein's first Broadway musical On the Town , with all the promises the glittering big city makes to fun-loving young people.
The violin concerto by Erich Wolfgang Korngold has a completely different effect. With his Viennese sense of sound from the fin de siècle, he has shaped Hollywood film music to this day. The concert builds from its thoughtful beginning to a furious finale, and the incorporated quotes from his film music carry this piece wonderfully.

Aaron Copland quite frankly expresses with Symphony No. 3 the national aspirations of post-war America, and it became, in Leonard Bernstein's words, "a national monument comparable only to the Washington Monument or the Lincoln Memorial".

Leonard Bernstein - Three Dance Episodes Aus On The Town
Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Violin Concerto In D Major Op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937)
Aaron Copland - Symphony No. 3
