Program Info: Basque National Orchestra Karel Mark Chichon Anne Gastinel, cello
Karel Mark Chichon , chief conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria, worked between 2009 and 2012 with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and there he discovered the figure of Andris Dzenitis , whose music will be presented to the Basque public. The majestic frozen landscapes that the Latvian composer describes in Postludium will lead to two pieces brimming with passion. The Cello Concerto is an extension of the music score that Erich Korngold made in 1946 for the film Deception , which depicts the fatal love triangle between a pianist, a composer and a cellist. Anne Gastinel , a referential player of the instrument in France, will be the one to deliver the intense drama of the solo part. Lastly we will listen to the ballet Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev , based on Shakespeare's immortal love story that inspired in the Ukrainian composer some of the most memorable melodies of his catalogue.
