Program Info: "My music is always and everywhere natural sound," Gustav Mahler confessed. Like hardly any other composer, he incorporated the sounds of the external environment into his symphonies, not least in the 1st symphony, which combines cuckoo calls and horn chorales with the sounds of a Bohemian band of musicians. Erich Wolfgang Korngold was considered a child prodigy and grew up in the Vienna that was also shaped by Mahler. His late violin concerto, composed in exile, is Viennese-inspired and is as virtuosic as it is melodious. Composer Ľubica Čekovská also speaks of »inspiration from outside« when she describes her orchestral piece »Adorations«, the title of which allows for many interpretations and perhaps opens a door »to the outside«.
Ľubica Čekovská: »Adorations« Erich Wolfgang Korngold: Concerto for violin and orchestra op. 35, the concerto has themes from the scores for the movies ANOTHER DAWN (1937), ANTHONY ADVERSE (1936) & THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER (1937) Gustav Mahler: Symphony no. 1
