Music in Film
Janáčkova filharmonie Ostrava conducted by Chuhei Iwasaki - Gong, Dolní Vítkovice

Program Info:
Film music is said to be just as essential to the sound of a work as its visual part. Chuei Iwasaki, a conductor originally from Japan, will present music from Hollywood blockbusters and lesser-known films together with the orchestra.

According to historian Mervyn Cook, film music is as essential to the final sound of a work as its visual part. Yet it is still unfairly neglected. But not in the dramaturgy of the concerts of the Janáček Philharmonic! Chuhei Iwasaki, a conductor originally from Japan, will present, together with the JFO Orchestra, music from famous Hollywood blockbusters as well as little-known film gems. The common denominator of the compositions is inspiration from foreign countries, either in the theme of the film for which they were composed, or in the origin of their composer. While American composer James Horner, the author of the music for Gibson's famous film Braveheart (1995), was often inspired by Celtic traditional music in his work, Hungarian Miklós Rózsa tried to achieve maximum authenticity with regard to the place and time in which the film took place. For example, motifs of the ancient Roman Empire and military marches appear in the score for the feature film Ben Hur (1959). At the concert, the audience will also hear, for example, music from the famous Schindler's List or the disastrous science fiction film Independence Day. There will also be music from the conductor's native Japan.

Music from
David Arnold - Independence Day
John Williams - Schindler's List
James Horner - Titanic
James Horner - Braveheart
and more
